Photos your child will look at one day

Small children do not perform on command, and a session built on asking them to is a session of tired parents and forced faces. We build ours the opposite way: give the child something to do, stay close, and photograph what happens.

That means a lot of walking at their pace, some sand, and usually at least one meltdown that we simply wait out. It also means the gallery comes back full of real expressions — the concentration on a face building something, the run back to a parent, the moment they finally look up.

Good questions, honest answers

What age works best?

Any age. Babies photograph beautifully in arms and at sunrise when they are freshest; toddlers do best with a short playful session; older children are usually happy to be directed a little.

What if my child will not cooperate?

That is normal and we plan for it. We shoot in short bursts, take breaks, and never force a pose — the best frames almost always come after a break, not before one.

How long should we book?

For under-fives the 30-minute Mini or the one-hour Classic is usually plenty. Longer sessions rarely produce better photos with small children.

Can grandparents join?

Of course — multi-generation holiday photos are some of our favourites. Just tell us the group size when you book.

Baby & kids photography in Antalya

A baby photoshoot in Antalya only works one way round: the session bends to the child, not the other way. There is no fixed shot list, no instruction to "sit still and smile", and no fighting a nap schedule to hit a booking slot. Instead we build loosely around whatever the child is actually like that day, settled and curious in the morning, cranky by lunchtime, wide awake again at golden hour. That flexibility is the whole method behind a good baby or kids session: the photographer adapts to the family, plans in short bursts with breaks built in, and treats a meltdown as a pause rather than a failed session. Parents who have tried a rigid studio booking with a toddler usually notice the difference within the first five minutes.

Timing changes a lot depending on age. Newborns and young babies photograph best in the first couple of hours after they wake, alert, fed and calm, before the day's overstimulation sets in, so an early-morning slot usually beats a sunset one for this age group. Toddlers do better later in the day once a nap is out of the way, and respond far more to a task than a pose: chasing a wave, collecting shells, being spun around by a parent. School-age children are old enough to take light direction and enjoy a bit of performance for the camera, so a birthday-style session or a short old-town walk holds their attention better than standing still on a beach.

For the setting itself, wide, gently sloping sand matters more than scenery. Lara Beach is the easiest choice for very small children, the sand stays soft and shallow water extends a long way out, so a toddler can wander safely while still staying in frame. Konyaaltı is a close second and suits slightly older kids who like pebbles, rockpools and a bit more texture to explore between shots. Both beaches also have shaded stretches near the promenade, useful for the inevitable break when a child has simply had enough sun and needs five minutes out of it before round two. Neither beach needs much walking to reach a decent stretch of sand from the car or a taxi drop-off, which matters more than it sounds like it should when a pram, a change bag and a tired toddler are all part of the same trip down to the water.

A hotel garden or pool deck is worth considering instead of a beach, particularly for very young babies or for families who would rather not manage sand, sunscreen and a swimsuit change on top of everything else. It keeps the whole session within a two-minute walk of the room, which matters when a nap could end early or a bottle is needed on short notice. Many resorts along the Antalya, Kemer and Belek strips have a shaded lawn or a quiet corner that photographs just as well as a beach, without any of the logistics. This option also suits families travelling with a newborn who is not yet up for a car journey to a beach at all, since a garden or pool deck within the resort keeps the whole outing short enough to fit around a feeding schedule rather than working against it.

Bring more than you think you will need: a favourite toy or snack to hold attention for the first few frames, a spare outfit in case of sand, milk or an unplanned puddle, and sun hats for anyone under two. Parents should plan to be in several frames themselves rather than just handing over the child, some of the most requested photos from any baby and kids session are the ones where a parent is mid-laugh, not composed for the camera. For sessions with a baby or toddler, the shorter Mini or Classic length is almost always plenty; a longer booking rarely produces better photos once a small child's patience runs out.

Summer sessions need real shade planning, not just sunscreen. Midday sun in Antalya is harsh enough to make a young child squint and overheat within minutes, so June-to-September bookings are scheduled for early morning or the last hour before sunset specifically to keep the light soft and the heat manageable. We also build in shaded pauses under a beach umbrella, a promenade tree or a hotel canopy between locations, and are happy to cut a session short if a child has simply had enough, the goal is a handful of properly happy photos, not an hour endured for the camera. Families visiting between June and September in particular should expect the session itself to run a little differently from a spring or autumn booking, shorter stretches of activity, more frequent shaded pauses, and a start time set as early or as late as the day allows rather than a fixed hour chosen for convenience alone.

A baby or toddler session runs on games rather than instructions, since asking a small child to do anything directly rarely works and usually backfires. Jane tends to hand a task to a parent instead, chase your child along the water, lift them up and spin once, walk toward me holding hands, and photographs whatever actually happens rather than waiting for a posed result. Older toddlers respond well to a small challenge, count the shells you can find, race to that rock and back, which keeps them moving and properly occupied rather than aware of the camera at all. None of this is scripted in advance beyond the rough idea for each stop, since a real toddler rarely follows a plan for more than a minute or two, and the best photos usually come from whatever game actually holds their attention that particular morning rather than the one written down beforehand.

Package length matters differently here than for an adult session, since a small child's patience rarely stretches to match a longer booking. Mini's thirty minutes suits most babies and younger toddlers perfectly well, one location and a handful of short bursts is usually enough before attention starts to wander. Classic's second location works better for slightly older children who can manage a short walk between spots without a meltdown, while Premium tends to suit multi-generation family groups more than the child themselves, since the extra time gets used on group combinations rather than asking one small child to perform for two hours straight. Grandparents are often folded into a handful of frames too when they are travelling with the family, since a single trip with three generations together is worth capturing properly rather than assuming everyone will simply be there again next year for another attempt at it.

The most common mistake parents make is dressing a young child in something new or stiff specifically for the session, then spending half the booking managing a fussy collar or an unfamiliar fabric instead of simply letting the child move. Clothes worn once or twice already, comfortable and a little loose, photograph better than anything straight out of a bag with tags still attached. The other frequent misstep is scheduling around an adult's ideal time of day rather than the child's, a sunset slot sounds appealing until it turns out to land squarely in the middle of a toddler's usual nap. Parents sometimes also try to plan the exact sequence of shots in advance the way they might for their own portrait session, which rarely survives contact with an actual toddler; leaving the order loose and letting Jane adapt on the day tends to produce a fuller, more natural gallery than a fixed shot list ever would.

Booking a baby or kids session works the same as any other on WhatsApp, though it helps to mention the child's age and rough nap pattern when you message, since that shapes the suggested time more than anything else. Nothing is charged while the date is still being discussed, only a small deposit once a slot is confirmed, balance settled on the day. The edited gallery lands within 1 week, culled down to the frames that actually show the child as they are that week, not a set of stiff, posed portraits nobody in the family will recognise in a few years. Priority delivery for $15 brings the gallery to 4 days instead of the standard week, worth adding if a grandparent visiting for only a few days wants to see the photos before flying home rather than weeks after the trip is already over.
