Lara beach photoshoot, Antalya’s family favourite

A Lara beach photoshoot trades Konyaaltı’s pebbles for a wide, flat stretch of golden sand on the sunrise side of the city, with resort hotels set back behind it and shallow water reaching well out from shore. There’s genuine room to move here — no mountain wall closing in the view, just a long, open horizon — which is exactly why it’s our favourite for a family beach photoshoot. Kids can run, jump and splash at the waterline while we shoot candidly from a distance, and couples get long, uncluttered stretches of sand for walking shots without dodging sunbeds.

A typical session starts near the beach access closest to your hotel, then moves out toward the waterline where the shallow water gives the most room to play. Because the shore is so flat and open, we don’t need to hunt for a single perfect spot the way we might on a shorter beach — we can walk further down the sand at any point if a stretch is busier than expected, without losing the light.

Being on the sunrise side of the city, Lara can work beautifully in the morning if you want soft, quiet light and an empty beach before the day gets going, though most families still prefer the last couple of hours before sunset, when the light lingers low and warm over a flatter horizon than Konyaaltı offers. The sand stays busy through the middle of the day in high season and empties out again by early evening, which is usually the better window either way.

Families with young children are the heart of what we shoot on Lara, and it also suits couples wanting a lighter, more playful set than a formal portrait session — running along the shore, splashing water, laughing rather than posing. We build the shoot around natural movement rather than static poses, which tends to produce the most genuine images. It suits this kind of energy better than it suits a quiet, editorial solo portrait, which usually reads stronger in Kaleiçi’s stone lanes.

The sand itself changes the whole feel of a session — soft underfoot, warm in the late afternoon, and forgiving for barefoot family portraits with no rocks to navigate and no awkward footing. There’s open shade near the resort tree lines but very little directly on the beach, so midday sun is strong; we plan around that rather than fighting it, and pack water for young children if the session runs long.

Bring swimwear or light beachwear you don’t mind getting a little sandy or damp at the edges — the best Lara shots often come from actually being in the shallows, not standing beside them. Sun hats, flowing cover-ups and bright or pastel colours all photograph well against the pale sand, and we time the session for late afternoon so no one is squinting into harsh midday light.

Where Konyaaltı gives you mountains and pebbles, Lara gives you flat sand and space — the easier choice underfoot for young children or anyone who finds rocks uncomfortable. It’s a gentler, softer set of images than the drama of Düden’s waterfall or the history of Kaleiçi, which is exactly why families tend to choose it over the other three.

Mini, Classic and Premium packages all suit Lara’s open layout well, with Classic or Premium giving enough time for both a posed family portrait and the candid running-and-splashing shots that tend to become everyone’s favourites.

Good questions, honest answers

Is Lara beach suitable for family photoshoots?

Very — the wide, soft sand gives kids room to run and play, which makes for the most natural, candid family photos, and there's shade nearby for breaks.

Is Lara less busy than the city beaches?

Yes — Lara's beach stretches for kilometres east of the centre, so even in high season we can find a quiet, uncrowded strip for your shoot.

Do you travel to Lara resorts and hotels?

Yes — most Lara hotels are set right on or near the beach, so Jane can meet you at your resort and we walk straight onto the sand together.

Which package works best for a Lara beach session?

Classic ($79) suits most families and couples here — enough time to catch the sand, the sea and a few golden-hour portraits before the light goes.
