Antalya Photoshoot Locations: Where to Shoot and Why

Most people assume any stretch of Antalya coastline will do, then wonder why two sessions in the same city look nothing alike. The differences are real: Kaleiçi gives you shade and centuries-old stone by mid-morning, Konyaaltı gives you open turquoise water with mountains rising directly behind you, and Lara gives you flat golden sand with nothing on the horizon. The ground itself changes the shoot, too — pebbles underfoot photograph and move differently to sand, and the light bounces off pale Ottoman walls in a way it never does off open water. Crowds build and fade at different hours in each spot, so a location that's empty at eight can be busy by eleven. The honest starting question isn't which spot looks nicest online. It's who is actually standing in front of the camera, because that changes which of the seven genuinely suits you.

Strip it back and Antalya really offers three different pictures. The beaches — Konyaaltı's pebble shore backed by the Taurus mountains, Lara's wide golden sand on the sunrise side, Belek and Kemer further along the coast — give you sky, water and open space, which suits wide, breathing shots and proper sunset colour. Kaleiçi, the walled old town, gives you the opposite: narrow cobbled lanes, bougainvillea spilling over the walls, Hadrian's Gate and the old clock tower, shade for most of the day and a harbour view from above. Düden's lower falls give you something neither can — a waterfall dropping straight off a cliff into the sea, spray in the air, greenery, drama rather than calm. None of the three is better than the others. They are simply different moods, and the right one depends on the feeling you want the photos to carry.

Who's actually in the frame changes the answer more than anything else. Couples tend to do best at Konyaaltı or Kaleiçi — the mountains-and-sea backdrop or the old-town alleys both give romantic, uncluttered frames without much competing for attention. Families with small children are usually happiest at Lara: the water stays shallow and warm for a long way out, the sand is soft enough to sit and play on, and there's no cliff edge or cobbled step to keep watching for. Solo and editorial portraits, where the point is mood and styling rather than scenery, work well in Kaleiçi's shaded lanes or against Düden's dramatic falls. Honeymooners generally want the postcard version of Antalya, and that's Konyaaltı at golden hour or Side's ancient columns on the seafront. None of this is a fixed rule Jane won't bend — it's simply what tends to photograph best for each group, based on how each location actually behaves in practice.

Golden hour, the hour either side of sunset, is the strongest light for nearly every one of these locations, which is why most sessions get booked for late afternoon. Konyaaltı is built for it: the sun drops behind the sea and the mountains turn pink before the sky does. Kaleiçi works differently, since its narrow lanes and high walls let morning light in where afternoon light can't, so a mid-morning slot before the day heats up often photographs better there than late afternoon does. Düden's waterfall doesn't depend on direct sun the same way, since much of it already sits in natural shade and mist. Midday punishes almost every open location — flat light, hard shadows under the eyes, and at Lara or Konyaaltı, a beach too hot and too bright to stand on comfortably. If midday is the only slot that works for you, Kaleiçi's shade makes it the most forgiving choice.

July and August are Antalya's busiest and hottest months, and it shows in photographs: packed beaches, harsh overhead sun for most of the day, and heat that makes anyone want to shoot for ten minutes and then get straight back into the shade. Spring and autumn are the honest best window — April, May, September and October keep the sea warm, the crowds noticeably thinner, and the light softer for longer stretches of the day, which is why most experienced visitors plan around those months rather than peak summer. Winter brings a different, quieter Antalya: cooler air, a much emptier coastline, and a lower sun that stays flattering for hours rather than minutes, though swimming isn't really on the table then. No season rules a location out completely; each one simply changes what the light and the crowd will look like when you arrive, which is worth planning around rather than the calendar alone.

Where you're staying is a practical factor, not just a preference. Guests based in the city centre are usually a short ride from Kaleiçi, Konyaaltı, Lara and Düden, so any of those four fit easily around a resort day without losing much time. Guests staying further out, at a resort in Belek, roughly 35 km east, or Kemer, around 45 km southwest, or further still at Side, about 65 km east, often assume they're limited to whatever's on their own hotel beach. Konyaaltı is pebble beach rather than sand, which surprises some visitors — flat shoes for the walk down are sensible, and bare feet on the stones take getting used to. Lara and Belek's beaches are properly sandy and flat, easy walking, fine for kids in bare feet all afternoon. Düden involves paths, some steps and often damp ground near the spray, so grip matters more than style there. Across all seven, a change of clothes, something to dry off with, and sun protection for the waiting between shots are worth packing. None of it needs to be complicated — it simply helps to know which spot you're headed to before deciding what to wear.

A single session doesn't have to mean one location. Kaleiçi and Konyaaltı sit close enough that pairing old-town shade with open beach light in one afternoon is straightforward, and the change in backdrop — stone lanes into sea and mountains — gives a session real variety. Konyaaltı and Düden also work well as a pair, since the falls aren't far from that same stretch of coast. Lara doesn't combine as naturally with the others, simply because of the distance, but it stands perfectly well on its own for a full session. The same logic applies further along the coast: if you're staying near Side or Belek, combining your resort beach with a short stop somewhere distinctive nearby makes more sense than travelling back into the centre and out again.
